M.Tech by Research Admissions at NITK Surathkal
The M.Tech. (Research) programme provides an opportunity for academically motivated students to undertake advanced research in emerging areas of engineering, technology, and applied sciences while acquiring specialized knowledge in their chosen field.

Regular Admissions (Category B.1)
Candidates with a valid GATE score can seek admission to the M.Tech (Research) program.
Selection is based on the candidate’s GATE score and performance in the qualifying examination, a national-level written test, and a technical interview conducted at NITK, with appropriate weightage assigned to each component as determined by the concerned Department Postgraduate Committee (DPGC).
Eligible candidates are entitled to receive scholarships in accordance with the norms prescribed by the Ministry of Education (MoE) for a maximum of four semesters, subject to applicable rules and regulations.
Sponsored (Full Time - Category B.2.1 )
Admission under the Sponsored Category is open to candidates who are nominated and financially supported by their employing organization.
Candidates admitted under this category are not eligible for Institute scholarships.
Applicants must possess a minimum of two years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization and submit a Sponsorship-cum-Clearance Certificate in the prescribed NITK format along with the application.
Internal Registrants (Part Time - Category B.2.2)
Candidates under this category are internal registrants who are sponsored Institute staff or project staff of NITK.
Such candidates are required to submit a Sponsorship-cum-Clearance Certificate duly issued by the Director, NITK, at the time of admission.
External Registrant (Part Time - Category B.2.3)
Candidates under this category are sponsored by industries, educational institutions, or other organizations and are expected to carry out their research work at their parent organization after fulfilling the prescribed academic and research requirements at the Institute.
Applicants must have a minimum of two years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization.
They may also be permitted to have an additional research guide from the sponsoring organization, subject to Institute regulations.
The residential requirement may be waived for such candidates, and they are expected to complete the prescribed coursework through certified courses pre-approved by the concerned Department Postgraduate Committee (DPGC).
