Research at NITK

Research at NITK is an integral part of the curriculum and a major component of the teaching-learning process. The institute takes pride in being recognized as a Centre for AICTE sponsored National Doctoral Programme and also as a Centre for Quality Improvement Programme (QIP). The newly introduced M.Tech (Research) programmes is aimed at orienting students towards novel research possibilities at an early stage. The institute assures for its scholars a broad and deep research navigation. NITK has received over Rs 200 crore since 2016. The NITK Research Advisory Board is established to provide policy directions to research activities. The institution has attracted significant research grants from various central and state government agencies with a total of 162 ongoing sponsored research projects.

NITK provides a wide breadth of research opportunities for our students to explore new avenues in the concerned areas.

  • Scopus publication per faculty per annum is 3.95 in the year 2018.
  • The h-index for the institute is 64.
  • International collaborative research projects with collaborators in the USA, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Switzerland, South Africa, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam.
  • Seven Centres of Excellence to support interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary research
  • Research Fellowship programmes planned to encourage research scientists and post doctoral fellows.The faculty research endeavors are funded either internally (under the scheme: Seed Grant for newly joined faculty) or through grants of the Government of India and other funding bodies.

Consultancy

  • Institute supports and encourages faculty members to provide industrial consulting services
  • Testing & consulting activities are facilitated, coordinated and monitored by Centre for Innovation, IPR and Industrial Consultancy (CIC).
  • Institute laboratories are recognized for quality services in testing, certification and calibration of instruments, equipment and materials.
  • Industries and Government agencies in the region/state have gained significantly through technical consultancy provided by faculty.
  • More than 200 industries and government agencies are availing testing & consultancy services from the Institute regularly
  • Total revenue generated through testing & consultancy works during 2018-19 was Rs. 1.55 Crores.
