NITK secures a grant of Rs. 6.2 crores from the Ministry of Textiles

National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal secures a grant of INR 6.2 crores from the National Technical Textile Mission, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Dr. Sreevalsa Kolathayar, Department of Civil Engineering, is the coordinator from NITK to establish a state-of-the-art Geotechnical Textile Testing Laboratory as a national facility at NITK. The project intends to promote using geotextiles for various applications and train students and faculty in technical textiles. NITK plans to introduce new courses on technical textiles and conduct advanced research on geotextiles. The center at NITK will host all basic equipment for element tests on soil and geotextile fabric. It will also host advanced equipment for model testing on reinforced earth under dynamic loading and field tests.
