32nd Series KSCST – Student Project Programme (Engineering)
The 32nd Series of Student Projects Programme of the Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology was organized by National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal during September 4-5, 2009.
Due to the sad demise of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy, a state mourning was declared by the Govt. of Karnataka for two days on September 3 and 4, 2009. In view of the Inaugural Function scheduled to be held on September 4, 2009 in the Silver Jubilee Auditorium was cancelled. However, the technical sessions, the seminar sessions and the exhibition were organized as per schedule from 2.00 pm on September 4, 2009.
The Technical Session at 2.00pm on September 4, 2009 in the Main Seminar Hall commenced with observing a two-minutes silence as a mark of respect and condolence to the departed soul, Shri Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy. It followed with a technical lecture by Prof. H. S. Jamadagni, CEDT, IISc, Bangalore on .
Followed by this technical session were five parallel sessions in the Applied Mechanics Department, where several project seminars were presented by the students of the different engineering colleges of Karnataka and a team of juries from IISc/ IIT evaluated these seminar reports. Also, the projects exhibition was arranged in two places - ATB and CCC. A number of juries were assigned to evaluate the projects based on the demonstrations.
There was another technical session at 5.30 pm in the Main Seminar Hall where an invited talk was delivered by Prof.K.J Vinoy, Dept. of Electrical Communication Engg, IISc, Bangalore on Microsystems Technologies.
On September 5, 2009, the programmes began with a Compendium Release Function. The 32nd SPP Compendium was released by Prof. K. S. Jagadish. He spoke about the achievements of KSCST and advised the students and the faculty to come up innovative project proposals avoiding repetitions. Prof. Sancheti, Director, NITK presided over the function.
At 9.30 am, the technical session commenced. Prof. K.S. Rangappa, Dept. of Chemistry, University of Mysore delivered a talk on Bioactive Heterocycles as Chemotherapeutics. Following this, there were three parallel sessions wherein different Projects Seminars were presented. At 12.00 Noon, there was another technical session where Prof. M. Giridhar, Dept. of Chemical Engg., IISc delivered an invited talk on Development of Conjugated Polymer Nanocomposites for Photocatalysis.
The Concluding Function of the 32nd Series SPP was arranged in the Silver Jubilee Auditorium at 3.00 pm. Mr. B. Nagaraja Shetty, Chairman, Coastal Development Authority was the Chief Guest. Prof. H. P. Khincha, Vice Chancellor, Vishweshwarayya Technological University, Belgaum graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Shri A. R. Shivakumar , Executive Secretary(i/c), KSCST welcomed the gathering and thanked NITK for the nice arrangements done for the smooth conduct of 32nd Series SPP. Prof. M.S. Mohan Kumar, Secretary, KSCST presented a brief report on the events that happened during the 32nd Series of SPP and advised the students and the faculty to come up with new and innovative proposals for projects in the coming years. Mr. Nagaraja Shetty, the Chief Guest on the occasion underlined the importance of Science and Technology in real time applications and urged the students to come forward to contribute to the development of the society through newer and useful ideas. Prof. H. P. Khincha, the Guest of Honour on the occasion spoke about the significance of science and technology and emphasized the need for further research in core areas of real time applications. Prof. S. Sancheti, Director, NITK presided over the function. During his address, he thanked the KSCST for giving NITK an opportunity to host the 32nd Series of SPP. He also advised the students to excel further academically and contribute to the development of science and technology. Prizes were distributed to different projects which were selected by the Juries. NMAMIT, Nitte bagged the overall best prize for the best performing Institution. The function concluded with the Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Shyam Kamath, the Joint Secretary, 32nd Series SPP of KSCST.
